  1. Corrosivity:

    • Highly corrosive: Causes severe skin burns and eye damage. May be fatal if swallowed.

    • PPE required: Acid-resistant clothing, chemical safety goggles, face shield, and gloves (e.g., butyl or neoprene rubber).

  2. Toxicity:

    • Inhalation: Irritates respiratory tract severely; can cause pulmonary edema.

    • Ingestion: Causes severe burns to the digestive tract; may be fatal.

    • Dermal contact: Causes severe burns; can be absorbed through the skin.

  3. Flammability:

    • Flammable liquid and vapor. Keep away from heat and ignition sources.

  4. Reactivity:

    • Reacts violently with strong oxidizers and strong bases.

    • Reacts with certain metals to produce flammable hydrogen gas.

  5. Spill Handling:

    • Small spills: Absorb with inert material (e.g., sand), place in container.

    • Large spills: Dike far ahead of spill; contain and dilute with large amounts of water (caution: heat generation).

    • NEVER allow direct contact with the spill.

  6. Storage:

    • Store in a cool, well-ventilated area in a corrosion-resistant container (e.g., plastic or FRP).

    • Separate from oxidizers, bases, and reactive metals.

  7. First Aid:

    • Inhalation: Move to fresh air, keep airway clear, seek immediate medical attention.

    • Eye contact: Rinse immediately with plenty of water or saline for at least 15 minutes, seek medical attention.

    • Skin contact: Remove contaminated clothing, rinse skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, seek medical attention.

    • Ingestion: Do NOT induce vomiting. Rinse mouth, drink plenty of water or milk, seek immediate medical attention.
